Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization Division (ACSM ) Division

The Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization Division, in short, the ACSM Division was set up to enable and enhance the TB Control Program at different fronts.

The section was launched on 24th March 2003 - World TB Day. It was earlier known as the IEC Section. The main objective of the section was to develop Information, Education and Communication (IEC) and advocacy skills among specific groups to combat the TB disease. The section highlighted the need to involve "cured patients" as advocates on TB and its control by their active participation. The division has sensitized school children and teachers, PU College students, Garments Workers, Self Help Groups and various other professional groups regarding TB Control activities.

Regular in-house sensitization programmes/training have been conducted by the division for the younger generations from medical, paramedical and life science courses regarding TB Control activities.

The Section hosts a ‘Scientific Gallery’. The concept of establishing the Scientific Gallery was born in the year 2002. The objective of establishing the Scientific Gallery was to project the general information on Tuberculosis (TB), important milestones in the evolution of the programme and achievements of the institute in the past, present accomplishments and insight for future challenges.

Taking in to consideration the various categories of trainees and visitors visiting the institute, it was thought appropriate to project the achievements of the institute in an interesting, graphic and phased manner. It was felt essential to disseminate the health education material on TB focussing on its history, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment aspects, epoch making events, and evolution of the control programme and the luminaries who have contributed in tuberculosis control.

Facilities available: The scientific gallery comprises of the following:

1.         Photographic Display

2.       Projection

3.       Information kiosk

Photographic display:  Enlarged laminated photographs on TB programme aspects, disease, important events, field activities, training programme, Luminaries, Directors of past & present, WHO Officers associated with the NTI and Health Education panels have been displayed on the panel boards. The photographic display session will leave an indelible impression on the minds of the visitors on achievements of the Institute, the evolution of the programme and its monitoring aspects.

Projection facility: The digitized version of four modules about the Institute, TB disease, NTEP and monitoring aspects are available for the visitors. The projection facility also facilitates in the conduction of Video Conferencing and Virtual Meetings.

Information kiosk on TB: Touch screen monitor has been installed for providing information on TB in a kiosk version. The visitors depending upon their preferences can get into the details of the four modules: about the Institute, Tuberculosis, Tuberculosis control programme and it's monitoring aspects.

Benefits to the Participants

The participants / visitors will get an overview of the functions of the National Tuberculosis Institute, TB control programme, magnitude of the TB disease and monitoring aspect of the programme in a nutshell within a brief period. This will also help in disseminating knowledge among their colleagues and friends regarding TB disease, importance of early diagnosis and treatment initiation and various social support available to the patients.

Accessibility

This facility is available for the target group free of cost on all the working days of the week (Monday to Friday). Interested organizations may avail these facilities with prior intimation and confirmation of the date of visit from the institute.

Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, the students could not visit NTI for in-house sensitization programmes.  Hence NTI initiated virtual orientation/sensitization training on TB & NTEP for paramedical and basic life science students. The virtual trainings are conducted on every Tuesdays and Fridays.

The training dates will be scheduled for each month tentatively by the Division Head. Communication will be sent to the respective Principals of the colleges through email asking them for a convenient date for training.  A link will be shared by NTI to the Principal / Training co-ordinator to disseminate the same to their students.  The Agenda will be Sensitization on TB and NTEP. All the participants will login with the shared link as per the agenda and timings. The training sessions will be assisted by graphics / photos / videos. Attendance will be taken from the login details from Computer training unit.
